Bonnie Horwood's stunning free-kick saw London Bees on their way to a commanding 3-0 win at London City Lionesses in the FA Women's Continental Tyres League Cup.

The midfielder arrowed a 25-yard strike into the top left corner midway through the first half to give the Bees the lead and they never looked back.

Merrick Will doubled the visitors’ advantage before half-time and Lauren Pickett capitalized on some sloppy Lionesses’ defending to seal the points in Group B.

The result sees the Bees pick up their first win in this season’s competition, while London City remain without a point from their opening two matches.

Both sides showed considerable attacking intent in a very even first-half.

Lionesses goalkeeper Lucy Thomas denied Will and then Pickett with a fine double save early on, while opposite number Sarah Quantrill pulled off a brilliant low stop to deny Elisabetta Ejupi.

But it was the visitors who took the lead after 26 minutes as Horwood arrowed a precise free-kick into the top-right corner of the net, leaving Thomas stranded.

And the Bees doubled their advantage just minutes before half-time, as captain Megan Alexander’s corner found Will completely unmarked in the area to head home.

The hosts then gifted London Bees a third third in the second period by giving away possession on the edge of their own box from a goal-kick, Pickett's deflected shot bouncing into the net.
