Totteridge’s Millie Rogove won two medals at the Slovak Junior & Cadet Open.

The 15-year-old JCOSS student won one of her three group matches in the Junior Girls’ Singles, beating Czech player Nela Hanakova 3-2 (9-11, 11-8, 11-9, 8-11, 11-7).

Defeats in her other two matches, including 3-0 (13-11, 11-7, 11-7) at the hands of eventual silver medallist Zuzana Pekova, meant she did not go through to the main draw and instead played in the consolation event.

Rogove won three matches 3-1 to make her way from the last-16 to the final, where she faced the competition’s top seed – Norway’s Martine Toftaker, who had only finished third in her group.

Rogove held her own, taking the third game, but Toftaker had enough to claim a 3-1 (11-6, 11-4, 8-11, 11-7) win and leave Rogove with the silver.

Rogove lined up with fellow English athlete Charlotte Bardsley and Toftaker in the team competition.

They topped their group thanks to 3-1 victories over a Czech Republic-Poland composite and over Slovakia, although Rogove was unable to win her individual matches.

England-Norway were then beaten 3-1 by France in the semi-finals and had to settle for bronze.

Rogove also played in the younger aged group Cadet Girls’ Singles but was again eliminated in the group stage and this time went out in the first round of the consolation event.
