Hendon maintained their 100 per cent start to the Herts/Middlesex 1 League season with a comfortable 31-7 win over Thamesians.
Dan Watterson scored two tries and converted both, as well as adding conversions to scores from Nick Andrews twice and Junior Faroa.
Thamesians started well-enough against a free-scoring Hendon side, but the hosts’ defence rode the pressure and eventually Watterson crashed over to open the scoring.
The visitors again dominated from the restart and they deservedly levelled the game when their winger collected a crossfield pass to go over, and the conversion made it 7-7.
It didn’t take long for Hendon to regain their advantage though, as Andrews broke away from a maul to go over for a five-point score.
After the interval, Hendon pinned Thamesians back inside their own 22 and the relentless pressure allowed Will Theaker to pass out to Watterson, and he cut back inside to dot down his second of the game.
Andrews added his second try shortly after following a good pass from captain Mike Culhane, and midway through the second half the scoring was completed when Faroa scored from a driving maul and Watterson added the extras.
The win sees Hendon stay top of the league, although St Albans remain level on points after maintaining their own winning start with success over Saracens Amateurs at the weekend.
All the more to play for, then, when Hendon make the trip to St Albans this weekend, with both records on the line.
