Hendon overcame London 1 North side Woodford 40-14 in a friendly following the cancellation of their London & South East Junior Vase match against USC Old Boys.

They were awarded a home walkover for the cup game, but arranged another match at short notice as a mixture of First and Second team players took on a combined Second and Third team side from Woodford.

Both teams played competitively despite the nature of the game’s organisation, and it was Hendon who took the lead when Rossa Dooley went over and Cian Hynes converted.

A second try swiftly followed for the home side as new player Stan Kennett went over after good work from Billy Burrell, and Hynes converted once more.

Woodford halved the deficit at the start of the second half as an attacking move from Hendon was intercepted, and the Woodford winger ran in from 50 yards.

Vytas Pavilonis restored the 14-point lead with a converted try and Junior Farao increased the lead further from a maul on the visitors’ five-metre line.

A lapse in concentration allowed Woodford their second try of the day, but Hendon continued to apply the pressure and added scores through Second team captain Aiden Power as well as Chris Kiyingi.

The match proved to be a useful run-out for the Herts/Middlesex 1 league leaders, and they return to league action this weekend when they visit Saracens Amateurs.
