Josh Walker scored a brace and Paul McCallum continued his fine scoring form as Barnet marched ever closer to the National League play-off spots with a 3-1 win at Woking.

McCallum had the Bees in front at the break and Walker doubled their advantage with 15 minutes to go, which looked to have sealed a comfortable win.

Jack Cook set up a nervy finish in the 85th minute, but there was no need to worry for the visitors as Walker made sure of the points in stoppage time.

Darren Currie made one change from the side that drew against Stockport County at the weekend as David Tutonda came in for Dan Sparkes, who dropped to the bench.

Barnet took the lead on 25 minutes when they broke with pace from deep inside the Woking half and Tutonda picked out McCallum to fire home his fourth goal in five games for the Bees.

The game’s tempo dropped in the aftermath of the goal, but the Cards did threaten an equaliser through former Barnet man Dave Tarpey, who had an effort parried away by Scott Loach.

Walker was introduced at the half-way stage in place of the injured Simeon Akinola, and he was straight into the thick of it, linking up well with McCallum and threatening a second for the visitors.

However, it was to be a Woking mistake that gifted them the second goal as Walker seized upon an error from Moussa Diarra and lofted the ball over the on-rushing Craig Ross.

With five minutes to go, Woking reminded Barnet that the game wasn’t over just yet as Cook got a slight touch to a delivery into the area and guided the ball into the bottom corner.

However, as the home side threw everything forward in search of an equaliser, the Bees capitalised as Charlee Adams picked out Walker who skipped inside the area and finished well past Ross to seal the points.

The win moves the Bees to within a point of the play-offs, despite sitting 10th, although they have three games in hand on most of the teams around them and two games in hand on all teams in the top five.

It’s one of those top five up next for Currie’s side as they make the long trip down to fourth-placed Yeovil Town this weekend. Kick off is at 3pm.
