Ben Richards-Everton believes Harry Kewell is building something exciting at Barnet ahead of the upcoming National League campaign.

Following a 1-1 draw, in which the Bees fought back from behind, against League One Oxford United, with a trialist scoring the vital equaliser in the match, the defender said that he was looking forward to being part of a team that could compete in the league in the upcoming campaign and believes that Barnet can massively improve on their poor showing last season.

“After last season, I came in in January and we conceded way too many goals and that’s something that needed to needed to stop, especially for the new season,” he said in a club interview.

“The gaffer has brought in a good team, he is assembling a bunch of players that buy into the way that we and the gaffer wants to play so it’s exciting times for the club.”

Richards-Everton felt that the draw on Tuesday against higher league opposition showed just how much they are developing under Kewell.

“They’re a really good League One team,” he said.

“It was a tough test for us and it’s really good for the boys to come out and get a decent result.

“The boys can be proud of themselves, event though it was two different teams in the first and second half, it was good.

“I think the manager’s pleased with how the boys handled themselves.”

Next up for Barnet is a tough match against Tottenham Hotspur Under 23s this weekend, which Richards-Everton will provide a different kind of test for himself and his teammates.

“I think it’ll be a different different type of test from the other games that we’ve played,” he said.

“It will probably a younger bunch of lads who like to keep hold of the ball and pass it around the back and in midfield and stuff like that.

“For us, it’s about being disciplined again and keeping in our shape and it’ll be a good fitness test for us as well.

“I don’t think there’ll be any surprises there. We’ve just got to be big and physical and get as ready as we can before the first day of the new season.

“It’s a new bunch of lads and everyone’s gelled quite quickly considering we’ve only been together not long.

“The boys are just buzzing to get out there, it’s very exciting.”
