A girls' football team from North London has been chosen to represent the UK in a prestigious European football tournament in France in a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Highbury Wolves Under-18s will take to the European stage in July at the Paris World Games, but with travel, registration and accommodation being expensive they are looking to raise funds and have set up a justgiving page.

Head coach David Scrafton said: “The girls have always given 100 per cent commitment and I truly believe they deserve this chance to show some of the best grassroots teams in the world who Highbury Wolves girls are.

“To know there is a chance of our team competing in such a big tournament is such an exciting prospect, but with costs as high as they are we need to fundraise in order to get all of our girls out to Paris.

“Their commitment is second to none, come rain or shine they are always on the training pitch working on new tactics and ideas.

“They even organise their own sessions, they are an amazing group and we hope we can raise the funds to give our girls the chance to experience a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”

The club, who are based in Islington, have also offered direct sponsorship with three different options.

Scrafton added: “As well as our Just Giving page, we also have direct sponsorship offers available to local businesses or individuals.

“We are looking for a front of shirt sponsor, sleeve sponsor and a tracksuit sponsor with the chance for your logo to be seen at the competition.

“The girls are looking to raise partial funds through fundraisers like raffles and football watch parties and we hope with the combination of all of these we will raise the money we need to represent the UK and do our country proud!”

Highbury Wolves welcomed former Lioness Anita Asante lto a semi-final watch party last summer to celebrate the transformational impact of National Lottery funding on women and girls’ football in the UK over the last 10 years.

The Paris World Games includes four different sports, with the football competition between July 7-12.

Highbury Wolves captain Alex said: “This is an opportunity we cannot afford to miss. The group of girls at our club are amazing and we are looking forward to representing Highbury Wolves at the Games."
