Dean Brennan says Barnet are facing “a lot of teething problems” after a 2-0 loss at Bromley confirmed back-to-back defeats upon the club’s return to the EFL.
After losing by the same scoreline at home to Fleetwood Town on the opening day, the Bees were undone by a quick set-piece routine allowing Bromley’s Michael Cheek to tap home unmarked.
And former Bees striker Nicke Kabamba added a late second to seal the points for the hosts.
Brennan told the club website: “We just look like we’ve got a lot of teething problems at this moment in time.
"We need to get our big players back [from injury], and I have to just throw people in the deep end so they can get fit as quick as they could."
In a tight first half, the visitors were caught unaware by the movement of Cheek as he expertly snuck in front of Danny Collinge to fire in the opener.
Brennan added: “It was a tight game. Obviously, Cheek’s the difference in the first half. It was poor defending from us. There’s a designated marker on him for all set-pieces, and he’s lost them too easy. We suffer then, going in 1-0 at half-time, which I think was just a tight game.
“There’s not loads in the game, but like I say, he [Cheek] is the difference. We had a good response in the second half but I thought they were stronger than us; they had a couple of good opportunities with their physicality, with their entries.
“I thought we grew into the game. Second half, better, and then we had a good chance ourselves. The difference in the end was both boxes, again.”
Having blasted is side'se performance against Fleetwood, Brennan was able to find some positives after the Bees searched for an equaliser before the late sucker punch as Kabamba broke into space and finished well past debutant goalkeeper Cieran Slicker.
He said: “We never gave in. We kept going. We kept trying. I think at 1-0, their centre-half made an unbelievable headed clearance in under the crossbar when Danny Collinge was gonna nod it in.
“There were some big moments that didn’t go our way. I’d like us to give up less chances than we have been doing. We’ve got a lot of teething problems, and there’s a lot of different issues within the group, within the squad.
“We just need to get a consistent team out. The sooner we do that, the better the results will be.”
Barnet host Walsall next in League Two, pointless and with a negative goal difference, and need key players such as Rhys Browne and Callum Stead back form injury.
Brennan added: “Getting minutes into key players’ legs which is important, and we just need to get a consistent selection and get our best players on the pitch as quick as we can.
“All in all, I think we were beaten by slightly the better side on the day. We’ve just got to, as quick as we can, get these boys back [for Walsall].”
