Potters Bar Town will be celebrating their 50th birthday this weekend, with a dinner on Sunday and two games of football the day before.

Formed 50 years ago as Mount Grace Old Scholars, they changed their name in 1991 and have gone from strength to strength. Ten of the side who played in the very first game in 1960 against BROBS have been contacted, with only Ken Shires, who is believed to have been in the RAF at the time, not found.

The club founders, Ken Barrett , 80, and Bert Wright, 93, will be attending.

On Saturday, at 2pm, the quadruple winning squad of 2005, who earned the club promotion to the Southern League, will play the current first team.

Then at 4pm, there will be a 50th anniversary reunion match, with many former players turning out.

The Parkfield gates will open at 1pm. Admission is free and all are welcome.

* Potters Bar Town concluded their Ryman League Division One North campaign with a 1-1 draw at home to Great Wakering Rovers on Saturday. The Scholars finish in a comfortable mid-table position.
