Barnet gained their second win over higher-league opposition within the space of a few days.

Glenn Poole struck in the second half to see off League One Charlton Athletic, just a few three days after the Bees had beaten Championship Watford.

This was another decent Barnet performance and will have given new boss Mark Stimson more cause for optimism.

It looks like his squad is gelling together well, the hosts fully deserving of the victory at a hot and sticky Underhill.

It was a quiet start, the first shot not coming until the 13th minute, through trialist Steve Kabba, but it was a routine save for Charlton keeper Rob Elliot.

Kabba then forced Elliot into another save from a tight angle, the striker looking the chief Barnet threat in the early stages.

For Charlton, Akpo Sodje flashed an effort a couple of feet wide in what was generally a low-key first quarter.

The hot conditions did not help, the players making the most of every lengthy stoppage to take on fluids.

MIdway through the first half, Mark Byrne broke down the left and laid the ball into the path of Mark Marshall, but his drive from 25 yards finished the wrong side of the post, though it was a decent strike.

Ten minutes before the interval, Jake Cole pulled off a fine save to thwart Sodje, who was freed down the middle, while at the other end, within a minute, Kabba just failed to get a touch to an inviting Marshall centre.

The deadlock was finally broken ten minutes into the second half. Mark Byrne crossed into the six-yard box and Glenn Poole nipped in to turn the ball past Elliot from just a couple of yards out.

Barnet continued to look the better side, but the second period produced even fewer chances than the first.

Both sides made numerous substitutions which did not really help the flow of the game.http://www.times-series.co.uk/admin/tree/sport/?action=new Charlton did try to up the pressure towards the end, but they created nothing of note to worry Cole in the Barnet goal.
