Barnet boss Lawrie Sanchez believes his side performed excellently in their 0-0 draw at Macclesfield Town and knows the Bees should have taken all three points.

An early header missed by Matt Smith was the best opening created by the Silkmen as Barnet controlled the majority of the contest.

Chances came and went for Sanchez’s men. Sam Deering hit the post before Ben May was denied by a good save.

Ricky Holmes also rattled the woodwork but it was Izale McLeod who had the Bees best opportunity to win the game.

The striker raced onto a May flick on before rounding the host’s goalkeeper Richard O’Donnell. Unfortunately just as he went to shoot McLeod lost his footing and the ball rolled agonisingly wide.

On the whole it was a frustrating night for Barnet but Sanchez acknowledged his side did all they could to win the game.

“In the second half the guys put in a great shift for us and I thought we were excellent against a very big, direct strong team.

“We defended manfully and when we broke I felt we caused them a lot more problems than they caused us.

“We did everything apart from score the goal. We have kept a clean sheet which we haven’t done for a while.

"But unfortunately for all the good play we only get one point which is disappointing.”

He continued: “Izale had two great chances, he has got in those positions and you expected, with his quality, that he would’ve finished them.

“But he didn’t and he got plenty of goals this season so you can’t really criticise him.

“He has scored 18 in the league for us and without them we would be worse off than we are.

“As long as forwards get themselves into positions then they will score. I thought Izale and Ben May worked excellently up front and caused Macclesfield all sorts of problems which is important.”

It was the first time Barnet had kept the opposition at bay since they held Plymouth Argyle to a 0-0 draw on Valentine’s Day.

Michael Hector returned to his natural role at centre-halve while Clovis Kamdjo filled in at right-back.

Sanchez said his entire back line performed well to restrict the Silkmen to just four shots on target.

He added: “The clean sheet is a positive. Michael Hector was back in the position he likes best, Clovis has played at right-back and he will always give you everything. Jordan Mustoe, Paul Downing and then Jack Saville complimented them and Brilly in behind them.

“We restricted them to be fair. I can’t remember Macclesfield having too many chances, maybe one header from a corner that bounced down.

“But if you count the number of opportunities we had you are looking at four or five good chances.”
