Developers have announced plans to build 400 new homes and space for shops and businesses in Hendon.

NEAT Developments wants to build on a site between Rookery Way and Edgware Road in the Hyde.

There is currently a Homebase and a used car sales lot on the site, which NEAT Developments wants to turn into what is calls a Hendon Hub, providing residential space and workspace for small and medium sized businesses.

Small retail units have been proposed as well as a plaza and amenities for residents.

A spokesman for the project said: "We are delighted to announce our plans to transform the site, which will deliver much-needed homes in the local area, as well as a space for the innovators and entrepreneurs of the future.

"The plans for the business hub will provide a unique space within Hendon for small and medium-sized enterprises and entrepreneurs to thrive, driving investment and creating growth within the local economy.

"We are now looking forward to consulting local residents and community groups on the plans, and we very much hope that they will be as enthusiastic about these proposals as we are."

There will be a public consultation to give people the chance to see the plans and have their say.

There will be a public exhibition at St Matthias Church in Rushgrove Avenue, Colindale, from Tuesday June 17 to Friday June 20. For a list of times to view the plans visit www.thehydehendon.co.uk

This is great - we need more houses and its brilliant to see a mix of residential and business use. Much needed regeneration which has to be good for Hendon.

No more houses or homes or flats.. It's already very congested and so much traffic.. We already have so much problems with crime. Looks like government has lost all control..

*Look around within half mile radius from home base.
*Already concrete jungle, overbuilt which has had n have created great traffic blocks, crime is high.
*Edgware community hospital overflowed long waitings, schools already overflowed.
*For Good Nesssake Think what will happen to a already over flowed area.
No one directors of Neat developers guess leaving in this area if they were... they would also oppose.
*This place is fine with home base as it's making money unless behind the doors spinoffs which obviously us as locals may not know.
To All locals this is our area we pay taxes we live here our children etc let's give them a run. It's common sense.
* This area needs cinemas, good restaurant s were the community comes togather.
As a local am putting a voice n urge all locals too, and Urge the Barnet officials too, to put the COMMUNITY FIRST then to this already OVER THE CAPACITY build up area if you don't then am sorry to say shame to Barnet council.

The area does not need this!! Leave Homebase alone. There are far to many flats being built in the Colindale area which will add congestion to the surrounding area. To say it will have no impact is rather stupid. I rather have Homebase then further overcrowding to the area. Come on people we live in the area lets STOP this now!! This is our area!!!
