Dick Schreuder admitted Barnet, for the second week running, were not good enough after the Bees were beaten 1-0 at home against Gateshead.

A second half goal from Jamie Chandler was enough to seal victory for the visitors and dent Barnet’s bid to remain in the Skrill Premier play-offs.

“The performance wasn’t good,” Schreuder said. “There was no tempo in possession and we didn’t have a good shape. We knew they played really good football. You look at their line-up and John Oster started up front, so they really came to play.

“We wanted to press them into playing long balls but that didn’t work out. So we made two changes at half time.”

He added: “We have to make substitutions and decisions to make it better. You can only make three changes but sometimes you want to make 11.”

It was the second home defeat in the space of seven days for the Bees and Schreuder admits his side must improve.

He said: “If you win everyone says it is going well, if you lose it isn’t going well. If you look at the game it is not good enough. But that wasn’t only today it was last week too.

“You can only score if you’re good on the ball and we weren’t good today. We didn’t have any build up. You need that to create chances but we didn’t do that.”

It was the second game without Jake Hyde for Barnet as the striker is currently injured with a hamstring injury.

When asked if the Bees were missing their top scorer, Schreuder said: “I don’t want to talk about injured players, it’s too easy.”

However, he added: “It is really important that everyone is fit. Two players have come back (Harry Crawford and Luke Gambin) but two others (Mark Byrne and Elliot Johnson) are injured. It’s been up and down but we need everyone back.

“Hopefully next week we’ll have Mark back and also Elliot.”
