An 80-year-old from Finchley has been recognised for his volunteer work.

Geoffrey Morris has been named a Diamond Champion by older people’s charity, WRVS.

Mr Morris, a volunteer at Jewish Care, was recognised by the charity as someone over the age of 60 who has made a significant contribution to his community.

On Friday the volunteer was presented with a Diamond Champions pin by actress Patricia Routledge, and with a certificate signed by The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall.

Mr Morris has been volunteering at nursing home, Lady Sarah Cohen House in Friern Barnet, since 2001.

He takes religious services and trains staff about Jewish culture, customs and rituals.

Geoffrey Morris said: “I was very surprised to be told that I was one of the 60 regional Diamond Champions.

“The award is, in very large measure, due to the enormous help and cooperation I received from my fellow volunteers.

“Their invaluable support has meant that together we have been able to achieve so much more.”

Robin Jacobs, Jewish Care’s head of community and day centre, said: “Nothing is too much for Geoffrey. He has commitment, devotion and time and he is an inspiration to others.”

Jewish Care is a Golders Green based charity which provides support and care to Jewish people in London and South East England.
