A cyclist who died when she was hit by a lorry in High Barnet has been named by police.

Hilary Lee, of Athenaeum Road, Whetstone, was killed almost instantly when she was hit by a dumper truck in High Street on Tuesday, November 16, at 3pm.

Passers-by rushed to help the 66-year-old but she was pronounced dead by paramedics when they arrived at the scene, outside St John the Baptist Church, a short time later.

Police also revealed that the victim was a retired social worker and her next of kin have since been informed.

A post-mortem examination at Finchley mortuary last week gave the cause of death as chest and head injuries.

An inquest at Barnet Coroner's Court was opened and adjourned on Monday, October 22.

The 45-year-old male driver stopped at the scene and was arrested on suspicion of death by careless driving.

He was taken to a northwest London police station and bailed to a date in December pending further inquiries.

Anyone with any information is asked to called police on 0208 842 1817.
