An international opera singer will unite five churches and provide “something positive for the community” at a one-off show next month.

Baritone singer Jonathan Veira, who has performed on the BBC Proms and Songs of Praise, will appear at Queen Elizabeth's Boys School, in Queens Road, High Barnet.

The “Audience With…” night is being organised by five churches in the High Barnet area in a bid to boost the clergy’s interaction with the community.

Pastor at High Barnet Baptist Church Robin Ruck said: “We wanted to do something in the community, for the community. I think it is going to be something really positive in terms of the churches coming together.”

Mr Viera, who plays the keyboard and guitar, will host the two-and-a-half hour show as part of a countrywide tour and organisers are hoping to cover their costs.

Churches supporting the event are the High Barnet Baptist, Christ Church Barnet, Underhill Baptist, The Stable and The Barnet Christian Fellowship.

Tickets to the event, on November 24, cost £7 per person or £5 for pensioners and scholars.

Pastor Ruck added: “The churches will underwrite any loss but we’re hoping we can get enough people down to break even. We’re looking to engage with the community outside of the church and this is a good opportunity – we’re looking forward to it.”
