West Hendon Community Centre is to receive a complete makeover.
The Times Series ran an appeal yesterday asking for volunteers to come forward to help repaint the inside of the Marsh Drive centre.
The response was so overwhelming that the centre’s owners, Barnet Homes, have decided to step in and help organise a complete refurbishment of the inside and outside of the building.
The social landlord will use local volunteers, and youth group members, to help carry out the work and, in doing so, they will help them with new skills.
The volunteers will be taught practical skills such as woodwork.
As a result of this offer by Barnet Homes the plans to repaint the building tomorrow have been put on hold.
A date for the refurbishment has not yet been confirmed.
The West Hendon Community Centre is home to a children’s centre and various community projects, including a youth group and a breakfast club for asylum seekers.
