A shopper grabbed a pickpocket in a headlock as he stole £2,500 from his trousers yesterday.
The 52-year-old victim withdrew the cash from a bank in Station Road, Edgware at approximately 1.45pm before making his way to a nearby shop.
As he strolled down the street he felt someone touching his back pocket. Turning around, he challenged the man and got him in a headlock.
A struggle ensued and the suspect managed to break free before running towards Edgware Road.
When the victim checked his back pocket he realised the cash, which he had withdrew for a holiday, was missing.
The suspect is described as a six-foot Asian man between 25 to 30-years-old, of proportionate build. He was wearing jeans and a black and white checked shirt.
Police are currently reviewing CCTV footage from the scene and witnesses are asked to contact police.
Similar thefts from people leaving banks have been reported across Barnet, although this is the first incident in Edgware.
