Children with autism and special educational needs celebrated the opening of a new Design and Technology centre at their school today.

Wooden Spoon Children’s charity donated £5,000 for a portable cabin where pupils at Holmewood School in Woodside Park Road, North Finchely, will be able to have DT sessions.

The charity also provided equipment including drills, hammers, screwdrivers and chisels.

Headteacher Lucia Santi said: “Our new design and technology suite will not only enable our students to develop new skills but could open the pathway for many to move into further vocational studies and courses at college and to eventually get a job.”

The DT centre was officially opened by Saracens player Jamie George.
