Hendon MP Matthew Offord has been condemned for his controversial comments about same sex marriage.
Mr Offord spoke out about plans to introduce gay marriage from 2015 at the House of Commons on Monday.
He said: “Has the government considered introducing other forms of marriage such as polygamy and if not, when can minorities who believe in such a practice expect their own consultation?”
Twitter users were quick to challenge his statement. One man said: “Matthew Offord MP: Now on about polygamy - deeply offensive#equalmarriage.”
While London Assembly Member for Barnet, Andrew Dismore, said: “Matthew Offord: It should be obvious to any intelligent human being that comparing equal marriage to polygamy is insulting.”
