Andrew Dismore reselected as Labour candidate for Hendon constituency

Times Series: Andrew Dismore has been reselected as Labour's parliamentary candidate for the Hendon ward Andrew Dismore has been reselected as Labour's parliamentary candidate for the Hendon ward

Former Hendon MP Andrew Dismore will contest the seat once more after being selected as the Labour candidate in the constituency for the next general election.

The Barnet and Camden Assembly Member won a majority vote among the Hendon Labour Party on Sunday, seeing off Tower Hamlets councillor Cate Tuitt, who also put herself forward.

The pair had been named in the final shortlist before a vote was taken yesterday.

Mr Dismore lost the parliamentary seat in 2010 to Conservative Matthew Offord by a margin of just 106 votes.

The pair have openly stated their dislike for one another and look set to do battle once more, with Mr Offord also expected to be reselected for the general election in 2015.

despite Hendon now being extremely marginal, and the current state of the polls, Dismore isn't a shoe-in for success

the continuing economic recovery and the marginalisation of UKIP (especially after next year's Euro elections) could well see Offord re-elected

Oh no, not Dismal Dismore again. Why does he think he can win in 2015 when he failed in 2010? Why didn't his Comrades pick a fresh face?

In case readers haven’t checked the Telegraph article link, I’ll pick out some key points concerning Dismal Dismore.

“In total, the Labour MP for Hendon split £65,000 in second home allowances between the two London properties over an eight-year period. He also used more than £1,000 in office expenses to pay his girlfriend to do casual work for him.” And “Andrew Dismore, a Labour MP under pressure over his expenses, claimed enough travel allowances in a year to drive between his constituency and Parliament three times every day that the Commons sat.” Finally: “Doesn't the way politicians used their expenses surely say something about their character?”

I find it truly astounding that the Hendon Labour Party has picked Dismal Dismore to stand again in this parliamentary seat. Let’s send them all a message by not voting for Dismore in 2015.

Sorry to disappoint you Milly Hilly but it is universally acknowledged in Mill Hill that not only your mate "Dr" Offord has failed to represent or even engage positively with his constituents, apart from a selected few.

Dismore in his time in parliament introduced private members bills that marked National Holocaust Day and put a legal framework on Jewish Divorces.

Offord on the other hand has brought his dog to the office to fight for his dogs human rights and got to know several other MPs well over a few glasses of something strongish.

So the choice really is down to a hard working former MP and someone who is at best a part timer who occasionally gets into scuffles and drunken arguments...

Add to that UKIP who will probably cream off the Monday Club vote and you have a perfect storm for the Tories.

Why would we join UKIP? I could be persuaded to vote but why would I join.

What did Dismore do for the non Jewish constituents?

I think I will just give someone who won't win my vote. Again.

Unlike Mike NW7, I am not a member of the Dismal Dismore Fan Club. I suppose I would describe myself as a member of the Critics of Dismal Dismore. Indeed, for somebody who was an MP for thirteen years, it’s surprising Mike NW7 can only dredge up two items worthy of praise. It is worth noting that Mike NW7 chooses to ignore Dismal Dismore’s overblown MP’s expenses.

Matthew Offord has only been Hendon’s MP for three years but he’s achieved much for his constituents. Just recently he achieved success with a campaign he led – along with some constituents – so “schools will have freedom to choose any modern or ancient language to teach for the four years at Key Stage 2.”

It’s a pity certain misocynist constituents can only focus on the issue of taking dogs to Parliament.

What a shame Offord didn't use the modern language of English to respond to his constituents correspondence.

Like Milly Hilly I'n not a member of the Dismore Fan Club but he was always courteous and replied to correspondence like his predecessor John Gorst. I've never received a reply from Offord like many others I have spoken to.

Also interesting tot speculate on the voting intentions of gay constituents. Even Freer fell out with him over that. It could be more significant than UKIP.

I am not gay but my barber is, on his behalf, I will NOT be voting 'awful Offord.'

I am not scared of dogs but when I saw little Max in Camden Town station, I nearly fell backwards on to the tracks. How cute a middle aged man with his dog on the underground, holding him up to protect him. How could I not vote for such a cute and considerate man?

Decisions, decisions. But as I said, mine is made.

Vote for Pedro!

You are lucky you didn't receive replies from
Offord, Barnet Parker. When I contacted him about the free school in Mill Hill Park I received very rude and intimidating letters from him. When I told him I was elderly and did not wish to hear from him again I still had another threatening letter from him, my son wanted to report him but I just wanted to let it go. I am Conservative but would not vote for him under any circumstances, nor would those of my family who live locally
