Churches came together to celebrate “unity and diversity” at a popular village green.

Hundreds flocked to Music on the Green at the Broadfields Estate, in Edgware, at a summer fete to help build bridges in the community.

People from all different cultures danced along to Christian music while others had picnics on the grass.

There were smiles all round as children took turns on the bouncy castle and had their faces painted.

Sponsored by the Open Heavens Christian Centre and St Andrew’s Church, the annual event aims to build bridges in the community.

One of the organisers, Israel Ogbuehi, from the Christian centre, said: “It is all about reaching out to the neighbourhood and showing them what we have to offer.

“We want to celebrate our unity, harmony and diversity and we have really achieved that today.

“Everyone has been having fun and the children seem to be loving it. I am impressed with the amount of people who have turned up.”

Restaurant Nandos donated free chicken to anyone at the event, and free ice-creams were also available.

Paul Berry, the pastor of St Andrews Church, Beulah Close, Edgware, said: “It is great to see the community coming together. A lot of hard work has gone into this event.

“This just goes to show how we can all work together. It’s been a fantastic day so far and people have been saying what a great time they have had.

“It has topped last year’s celebrations already.”

Six-year-old Chidinma Olisa said: “My best part of the day was playing on the bouncy castle with my brother. It’s been so much fun and I can’t wait to do it again next year.”
