Culture Secretary Maria Miller to be guest of honour at Hendon Conservative Association's Gala Dinner

Culture Secretary Maria Miller who has been ordered to repay £5,800 after over-claiming her mortgage expenses is due to be Hendon Conservative’s guest of honour this evening.

As of this afternoon the Hendon Conservative Association has advertised its “good fortune” at having secured Mrs Miller for its Gala Dinner.

Earlier today Mrs Miller apologised to MPs and was ordered to repay £5,800 for failing to cut her mortgage claims as interest rates fell.

The Commons committee for standards found she had over-claimed the money in 2009.

It is believed the Hendon Conservative's dinner will be held at 7pm this evening at Allianz Park.

Party members who will have paid good money to meet Mrs Miller (no relation) tonight will be hoping that she speaks for longer than the 31 second excuse for an apology in the Commons this afternoon.

How long are you going to do this April Fool thing. First you tell us a Barnet Politician has been summonsed for an unpaid Council tax bill. Now you tell us that Maria Miller is a guest of the Barnet Tories. I knew it was a jape when the words 'Maria Miller' and 'honour' in the same sentence.

So the Standards Commissioner concluded that Mrs Miller had over-claimed £45,000, but she only has to re-pay £5,800. Labour MPs went to jail for less.
