A burglar was arrested after making phone calls from a stolen mobile phone.
Ben Hopkins, 19, broke into a house in Elton Avenue, Barnet, on April 17, while the victim was on holiday. He stole a car, mobile phone, jewellery and a number of electrical items.
Officers from Barnet Acquisitive Crime Unit traced Hopkins through phone records from the stolen phone.
He was arrested and charged with burglary on June 21.
Hopkins, of Cricklewood Broadway, pleaded guilty at Wood Green Crown Court last Monday.
He was sentenced to two years and nine months' detention in a young offender institution.
