Fresh, witty and thought-provoking artwork created by university students will go on show.

Graduates from Middlesex University, in The Burroughs, Hendon, will display their work at the Collyer Bristow Gallery in central London.

One artist will be selected to win the new Collyer Bristow award of £2,000 by Emma Dexter, director of visual arts at the British Council.

Collyer Bristow, a UK law firm with offices in London and Geneva, has been championing emerging talent in contemporary art for nearly twenty years.

The pieces have been selected by curators Day + Gluckman, who work directly with artists with rigorous and inspiring art practices to create exhibitions.

The varied collection will include a dramatic cardboard installation inhabiting the reception area, and an invitation to gyrate with the English Disco Lovers.

Middlesex University graduate Chris Alton said: “I'll be exhibiting a project I've been working on for the past two years, English Disco Lovers.

“The piece blends socio-political phenomenon with real life activism - it's a deployment of disco against belligerent xenophobia that's spawned a real-life political movement.

“Showing the project as part of the Collyer Bristow graduate exhibition is an exciting opportunity, as it takes the work back to its art-fuelled roots."

The exhibition runs from October 9, 2014 until January 28, 2015, at the Collyer Bristow Gallery, 4 Bedford Row, Holborn, London.
