An MP will be reported to Parliament after he criticised the BBC’s decision to include George Galloway on Question Time.

The BBC One political debate programme, presented by David Dimbleby, is due to be filmed in Finchley next Thursday, and will feature George Galloway, the Respect MP for Bradford West.

Mr Galloway has caused controversy in the past by refusing to debate with Israelis, and was criticised last year for declaring Bradford an “Israel-free zone”.

Mike Freer, Conservative MP for Finchley and Golders Green, which has the highest proportion of Jewish people in a UK constituency, said the move was “insensitive and provocative”.

He added: “George Galloway has had numerous run-ins with the UK Jewish community, not least because of his refusal to share platforms with Israelis.”

A spokesman for George Galloway said: “Mike Freer’s comments are disgraceful and more than that, they are highly provocative.

“He (Mr Galloway) has already been attacked by a man in the street wearing an Israel Defence Force T-shirt. This kind of comment provokes people.”

The spokesman added that Mr Galloway would be referring the comments to the Speaker of the House of Commons and his lawyers.

In a statement, the BBC said: “Question Time invites panellists who reflect a significant range of opinions on a number of different topics. Whilst Mr Galloway’s views are entirely his own, as an MP he has a right to appear on the programme and has done so previously.

“Subjects for discussion are chosen by our audience ahead of each show and this edition of Question Time will be no different.”
