A 23-year-old man was arrested for robbery and taking a motor vehicle without permission.

Both were taken to a north London police station.

Eyewitness Scott Jones, 23, an estate agent, said: “I was walking down the road and saw a bike on the pavement. Two guys ran out the shop, hopped on the bike and tried to get away, but were stopped by four or five police officers.

“Five minutes later, about ten police cars turned up and closed the road for about 100 metres. It was like they pressed a button, and everyone from Golders Green just came. It was all over very quickly.”

Jewish neighbourhood security group Shomrim London helped with the arrests, and tweeted at 4.08pm: “Smash and grab incident at jewellery shop opposite #Golders Green tube station #Shomrim assisted @MPSBarnet suspects arrested.”

There are no road closures and police inquiries continue.

No other people are being sought in connection with the incident at this stage.
