A centenarian says his tip for reaching old age is not worrying too much.

David Stellman celebrated turning 100 with friends and staff at the Jewish Deaf Association (JDA), in North Finchley, yesterday.

Mr Stellman and his partner Joan Weinberg, 85, from North Wembley, have been long-time members of the JDA.

The couple met 11 years ago after they had both become widowed. Mr Stellman had been married to his late wife Lily for 57 years, and has a son, Martin, and a grandson, Ruben.

The centenarian formerly worked in his father’s jewellery business in London’s Hatton Garden. The company was one of 50 jewellery manufacturers asked to submit a wedding present on the occasion of future queen Princess Elizabeth's wedding in 1947.

Mr Stellman said: “All 50 brooches were sent to Buckingham Palace and the future Queen picked our brooch, which was made by me and my fellow craftsmen. She sent a letter of congratulation to my father’s jewellery business.”

Asked for tips on keeping fit at his age, the Arsenal fan said: “I have never smoked or drunk alcohol. I kept fit by playing tennis and went on rambles. I never worry too much and am just happy.”
