A job club which helps people struggling to find work welcomed a visit from a parliamentary candidate.

Oliver Dowden, who is hoping to be Hertsmere’s next Conservative MP, met Christ Church Little Heath Job Club, in Great North Road, Potters Bar.

The club has been established with Christians Against Poverty.

Mr Dowden met members of the congregations, volunteers and the vicar, Steve Rees, who explained the purpose of the club was to help people get back into employment.

Members help people write CVs and give them interview techniques.

Mr Dowden said: “Each individual comes to the job club with their own unique set of circumstances and problems. An important aspect of the great work done by Christ Church Little Heath is get to know each candidate and really engage and help them overcome their own barriers to employment.

“I praise both the candidate and volunteers for their current successes and wish them all the best for the future.”
