The Times Series has asked each parliamentary candidate to list five reasons why they should become MP at the General Election on May 7.

Here Labour candidate for Finchley and Golders Green Sarah Sackman explains why you should vote for her.

When I grew up in East Finchley I was taught that everyone who gives their best can achieve their best. I also learnt that a community only succeeds when everyone in it succeeds.

In the run up to this election it’s been inspiring to find out that so many people agree with those principles. I have worked with thousands of fantastic people in Finchley and Golders Green who have given their time as volunteers to defend nurseries and libraries or campaign for affordable housing and a sustainable future for our NHS.

My job as a barrister in public and environmental law has taught me that we don't have to accept injustice and that if we come together we can change our community for the better. Here’s what I know we can achieve together:

Save our NHS: GP surgeries are closing in East Finchley and Cricklewood and are not being replaced. With Labour, you will be guaranteed GP appointments within 48 hours and we will train 8,000 more GPs and 20,000 more nurses.

Make work pay: The economy isn’t working for most working people. I support Labour’s policies for lower business rates, more workers on the London Living Wage and paid starter jobs for the young unemployed. That’s how you cut the deficit - by boosting our high streets and getting the economy growing for everyone.

Affordable homes: Speaking to residents in our constituency the main thing people tell me is that renting or buying a home in our area just isn’t affordable any more. The answer is more homes, and Labour will build 200,000 more homes a year by 2020. For private renters, we’ll bring in 3 year tenancies as standard, ban letting agents’ fees and cap rents.

Childcare: When the Conservatives announced cuts that would have closed Moss Hall nursery in West Finchley, I campaigned with parents and we kept it open. With Labour, parents will get the childcare they need before and after primary school hours, and 25 hours free childcare for working parents of three and four year olds.

Keep Britain in Europe and protect our human rights: A Conservative Government would put our future in Europe at risk. That would be a disaster for businesses and jobs. I will fight to keep our Human Rights Act, and for a stronger Britain in a stronger Europe.
