A Barnet opticians has collected over two hundred pairs of used and unwanted glasses to raise money for charity.

Specsavers in Barnet have been encouraging local residents to donate their old glasses in aid of the international sight charity Vision Aid Overseas.

The charity, which celebrates its 30th birthday this year, will use the money raised from the unwanted glasses to help improve access to eye care services in developing nations.

Pragna Raghwani, store director of Specsavers in Barnet, said: “We’ve been blown away by the response from residents. It’s wonderful that the sale of reusable materials from these glasses will help create a positive effect on the lives on people less fortunate.”

The money raised from the unwanted pairs of glasses will help fund the work of Vision Aid Overseas in six African nations, where they are establishing vision centres, training healthcare workers and providing desperately needed eye examinations and treatment.
