THERE is just under a week left for people to have their say on a £23m project to rebuild two leisure centres.

A consultation into Barnet council’s plans to knock down and rebuild Church Farm leisure centre, in Burlington Rise, East Barnet and Copthall leisure centre, in Champions Way, Hendon ends next Wednesday (September 23).

The proposals for Church Farm include two swimming pools, a studio space and a fitness centre.

But it would need to be built elsewhere in order to fit, and two alternative sites have been found - at Danegrove Playing Field in East Barnet and Victoria Recreation Ground in New Barnet.

Copthall would be replaced with a new building nearby, with new swimming facilities, a larger gym and studio space.

Both the existing leisure centres would remain open while the new facilities were being built.

Councillor Sachin Rajput, chairman of the adults and safeguarding committee, said: “These are exciting proposals on how we can improve our leisure centres in the borough. Barnet’s population is rapidly increasing and we need to make sure that our facilities run efficiently as well as meet the needs of our residents in the borough.

“We want to encourage as many residents as possible to take part in this consultation before it closes.”

The authority says it has no plans for the future of the Church Farm site, and that discussions continue about the wider Copthall site.

People can pick up a paper copy of the consultation from Church Farm, Copthall, Finchley Lido, Burnt Oak and Hendon leisure centres as well as the council’s libraries.
