AN INDIAN restaurant in West Hendon will be bulldozed to make way for 43 flats.

The development will see Raw Spice, on West Hendon Broadway, knocked down and a five-storey building erected in its place.

Barnet council’s Hendon area planning committee passed the plans last night, on the grounds a section 106 agreement – which ensures developers contribute to the community – is entered, including making seven of the flats affordable rent.

The developers could also have to pay £916,970 for the Barnet and Mayor of London Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) charges, which distribute money to councils depending on the amount of development.

In a planning statement, Preston Bennett Planning, on behalf of Pharmchem Investments Ltd, said the scheme would contribute to meeting Barnet’s housing needs, and that the site is currently underused.
