PRIMARY school children met a war veteran who shared her memories of seeing the Queen.

Former RAF flight mechanic Betty Brand, who lives at Rubens House, in Finchley, told pupils from Sacks Morasha Primary School what the monarch was really like.

The Year 5 pupils were invited to the Jewish Care home to celebrate the monarch's 90th birthday.

Ms Brand, 96, said: “The Queen had a pale yellow dress with puff sleeves and a little hat.

"All of us girls thought she was so beautiful and he was so good looking, we were very excited about the wedding.”

Snacks were provided by Uncle Doovy’s ice-cream van and volunteers were on hand to help with all the activities.

The children and the residents made paperchains and bunting before singing ‘Land of Hope and Glory’ while waving union jack flags.

Leah Lipman, ten, said: “It was fun talking and doing activities with the older people and lovely seeing everyone so happy at the picnic lunch and eating ice cream together at the end.”
