Adults with learning difficulties joined the effort to promote social action in their communities ahead of a major charity event.

Langdon provides independent living space for adults with learning difficulties from their social and event site in Gideon Close, Edgware.

The site saw a team from Mitzvah Day set up their Barnet hub there this weekend to package and deliver t-shirts and merchandise to the borough a fortnight out from their big event on November 27.

Volunteers from Langdon assisted Mitzvah Day chair Laura Marks, executive director Dan Rickman and co-ordinator Alex Rickman packing, sorting and handing out the merchandise packs.

They will be sent to synagogues, schools, workplaces and organisations all around Barnet to help promote Mitzvah Day as the charity encourages them in undertaking projects to help the local community.

Langdon co-ordinator Sonia Muscovitch said: “The hub was brilliant.

“It was a pleasure to see our members, all of whom have various learning disabilities, being part of such wonderful efforts to help others in need.”

Langdon offers support, education and employment opportunities, social activities and supported living for Jewish youth and adults with learning disabilities.

Mitzvah Day executive director Dan Rickman added: “Mitzvah Day is about breaking down barriers and bringing people together.

“The Langdon volunteers loved interacting with our staff and co-ordinators and they have some excellent projects set up as part of our Mitzvah Day Together initiative.”

On Mitzvah Day itself, Langdon will team up with Jewish charity JW3 to bake cakes for homeless people at St Mungos homeless charity.

In other projects they will be making and sending cards to lone soldiers in Israel and taking part in the Maccabi run football coaching and tournament day with learning disability charity Kisharon.
