More than 30 football clubs in London have been linked to 106 separate allegations of sex abuse, Scotland Yard has said.

A specialised investigation team, with officers from the sexual offences, exploitation and child abuse command, was announced on Thursday (December 8).

The investigative team has received 106 separate allegations to date, connected to individuals at 32 named football clubs or teams in London.

Allegations have come through in relation to four teams in the Premiership, two allegations were against Championship clubs and three against clubs in Leagues One and Two.

There have also been 21 other named clubs which would include non-league or non-professional or amateur teams.

Detective chief superintendent Ivan Balhatchet said: “The Met take all allegations seriously and specialist officers will work through the information passed to them.

“The number of referrals, pieces of information and allegations will change.

“Officers will continue to work through the information that has been reported.”
