Neighbours tired of seeing their street blocked by “noisy, dirty” lorries may see some relief as new enforcement practices are brought in.
The Vale, Childs Hill, is a long and thin road frequently forced into one-way traffic as parked cars restrict the space allowed to larger vehicles.
Despite a long-fought campaign to introduce a 20mph zone and weekend weight limit in the street, lorry drivers often ignored the restrictions.
A CCTV camera has now been introduced by Barnet Council’s environment committee to further scope out the area and enforce the restrictions on lorry drivers.
The cameras were introduced by Childs Hill councillors Shimon Ryde and Peter Zinkin.
Cllr Zinkin said: “Filthy, noisy lorries have been a thorn in the side of residents in the Vale and surrounding streets for a long time.
“These cameras will ensure anyone breaking the weight restriction will be dealt a fixed penalty notice.”
