Night buses may be reduced in the borough due to the success of the night tube.

Andrew Dismore AM, former Labour MP for Hendon, has said he is "furious" that some night buses in the borough will be reduced following the introduction of the Night Tube, due to the lack of consultation and expense of the tube.

Transport for London (TfL) has said there has been a larger than expect drop off in use of certain night buses in the area, including the 134, N20 and 43, which may lead to the reduction of services.

Mr Dismore said: "It is ludicrous to make these cuts now after only a few months of the night tube. It would be far more sensible to have looked at these routes over a longer term, and through different seasons, then do a full consultation. "Many of these night services were already not regular enough, now I can see very long waits for night buses."

Mr Dismore was particularly frustrated by the lack of consultation, and that with the night tube being more expensive lower-paid workers will now have to pay out more if they are working a night shift, especially those living in outer London.

However the spokesperson from TfL has said they are "constantly reviewing" the night bus network to ensure the level of service meets demand.

Claire Mann, TfL's Director of Bus Operations, said: "On some routes where there has been a significant reduction in the number of night bus passengers because they are using the 24-hour Tube, we have reduced the frequency of the bus services.

"Where customers would benefit from additional services, such as at the end of Night Tube lines, we have boosted frequencies and created new routes."

Mr Dismore has said he will be writing to TfL with a full list of his concerns, and to find out why they have gone forward with what he considers to be inadequate consultation.
