A great grandmother of four celebrated a milestone birthday surrounded by family and friends.

Dorothy Tolfree, a former hairdresser living in Cat Hill, celebrated her 100th birthday on November 2 (Thursday) with her two children, Richard Tolfree, 74, and Annette Skues, 71, her four grandsons and four great grandchildren.

Mr Tolfree said: "Her grandson and great granddaughter flew over from France as well as relatives from Kent and Buckinghamshire. She just spent the day enjoying their company.”

A dedicated Christian, Dorothy is closely connected with the East Barnet Methodist church where she not only attended mass, but helped give back to the community by organising events and helping with flower arrangements.

Mr Tolfree added: "She’s a bit frail now, and can’t hear or see much so she can’t do as much as she did before."

The centenarian, originally from Finsbury Park, took care of herself for 99 years before she moved into Baxendale Care Home in Whetstone last February, where she now resides.
