A school has hosted a party for over 75-year-olds because children wished to make a difference to the lives of elderly people.
On Monday December 12 Year 6 pupils from Cassiobury Junior School handed out Christmas cards, sandwiches and cake to their guests while Year 3 sang carols.
Watford loneliness charity Contact the Elderly helped plan the festivities.
Georgina Sells, elderly support officer for Watford, said: “This event perfectly demonstrated the enjoyment that can be had when we get different generations together for a celebration.
“You could really see how the company of children brought a smile to the faces of our older guests, many of whom have little or no family or grandchildren.
“It was clear that the pupils also enjoyed the feeling of giving back to their community, and had a lot of fun listening to our older guest’s stories.
“I’d like to encourage anyone who might be interested in volunteering with Contact the Elderly in Watford to get in touch.”
