Old Fold Manor GC's Steph McEvoy won the Herts Junior Championship at Aldenham Golf Club. McEvoy triumphed with a gross 75 and was crowned the Hertfordshire junior champion 2009.

Finchley Racers stage 80-mile race

Finchley Racing promoted their Paul Simon Homes RR at the Panshanger circuit near Welwyn Garden City, over 80 miles, on Sunday. A full field of 70 riders took part from all over the London and Essex, with six riders from Finchley. Racing was fast and furious from the start. Werner Otto of Finchley was just unable to outsprint Dave Williams of the London Dynamo team and had to settle for second place. However, the race referee then decided that six riders had strayed over the white carriageway line earlier in the race, and Werner was disqualified. Andy Cullinane was therefore the club's highest finisher in third place.

Brits beat French at their own game

A team of Petanque players from Franconville, France, visited their opposite numbers at Oakmere Park, Potters Bar. The visitors came with four teams of two, who all stayed with the Potters Bar players.
