Redbridge homeowners are among the biggest house price “winners” in the country after property values soared last year.

The average house in the borough was £475,148 during 2017, a 7.7 per cent increase on the year previous, according to a study by Halifax.

The figure means in real terms, the average Redbridge homeowner saw the value of their property rise by almost £34,000 in the past 12 months.

Research also found house prices in the borough rose at close to triple the national rate of 2.7 per cent, making it the fifteenth fastest growing area for property values in the country.

Across the UK, house prices grew quickest last year in Cheltenham, where the value of the average home rose 13 per cent to £313,150 in 2017.

Meanwhile, homeowners in Perth experienced the worst year-on-year performance for their homes, seeing more than £10,000 knocked off the average value.

Halifax managing director, Russell Galley, said: "A number of towns and cities have recorded significant rises in house prices over the past year, with all of the top 20 performers recording growth of at least double the national average.

"Unlike last year, the top performers are not exclusive to London and the South East, with the top spot now belonging to Cheltenham in the South West, and towns in East Anglia, East Midlands, North West, Wales and Yorkshire and the Humber also making the list."
