Library users can now access thousands of newspapers and magazines free at the touch of a button through the pressreader app.

Barnet Residents simply need their library cards and will be able to access publications from 100 countries and in 60 different languages.

They can access everything from the fashion and lifestyle magazine Vogue to newspapers like the Daily Telegraph.

Cllr Reuben Thompstone, Barnet council’s chairman of the community leadership and libraries committee, said: “I’m delighted that we are able to offer pressreader to our residents. It is a fantastic online resource, giving people free access to thousands of publications from around the world with just a library card."

Residents have been encouraged to make use of the range of other online resources already on offer, like the borrowbox app, which gives readers access to an entire catalogue of audio books.

Cllr Thompstone said that the pressreader app was there to complement the “other digital services” that are already on offer.
