An awards ceremony has celebrated the achievements of students and staff.

The ceremony was held in Barnet and Southgate College’s Wood Street Campus on July 4.

A total of 14 winners announced for, British Values, inspirational students and teacher of the year, among others.

Inspirational student winner Jamarley Richards, 15, from Whitefield School, said: “I’m so proud to receive this award, Whitefield School has been so supportive and I’m really happy at school.

“Most of all I feel happy that I inspire other young people, that really inspires me, it’s great when year 7 and year 8 pupils say that they look up to me.

“I feel privileged to be in my position.”

The BBC is filming Jamarley as part of their documentary series ‘Generation Gifted’ and will air on TV in February 2019.

The principal of Barnet and Southgate College David Byrne, said: “Barnet and Southgate College is proud to host the Barnet Schools Awards for the second year.

“Huge congratulations to all the shortlisted staff and pupils from all of the Barnet primary, secondary and special schools that entered this year.

“Each and every one of them has shown real commitment to their school and are truly an inspiration to us all and we hope that they enjoy and celebrate their recognition when they go back to their schools.”

The Barnet School Awards 2018 were sponsored by Middlesex University, the Barnet Homes Group and St. George West London and were hosted in partnership with the Barnet Times Series and Barnet council.
