With 60 percent of the ballot boxes opened, the Conservative party is racing ahead in Barnet and Camden.

Mayoral candidate Boris Johnson and GLA candidate for the constituency Brian Coleman are trouncing their Labour rivals, Ken Livingstone and Nicky Gavron respectively.

As things stand, it appears that the voting patterns of Barnet residents broadly reflect emerging results city-wide, with Mr Johnson ahead in nine out of the 14 constituencies as first choice for mayor.

Residents are, however, showing a distinctive leaning towards the Conservatives in Barnet on a good day all-round for the party, as Ms Gavron's early concession of defeat begins to look prophetic.

The results are expected to be released within the next few hours.
