Nominations to find the borough’s sporting heroes close next week.

The celebrating sports awards have been organised by Barnet Council to find the people who help provide sporting opportunities in the area.

The 15 categories include club of the year, volunteer of the year and young disabled performer of the year. Winners will receive trophies, vouchers and tickets to major sporting events, at the gala ceremony to take place at North London Business Park in October.

Councillor Fiona Bulmer, cabinet member for children's services, said: "These awards will recognise the wide range of people who work tirelessly to raise the profile of sport and, in particular, to provide opportunities for young people to get involved in sporting activities.

"I hope everyone involved with sport in Barnet will think about nominating someone for these awards."

Nominations must be received by Friday September 12. For more information and a full list of categories, or to nominate, contact Kim Henderson on 020 8359 6344 or email kim.henderson@barnet.gov.uk.
