A PAIR of greyhounds have been snatched from an animal sanctuary in Potters Bar.

The theft happened earlier this month and police are now appealing for help in tracking the animals.

Detectives said two men entered the Sir Francis Animal Sanctuary in the Great North Road during the day on September 9.

Officers believe the men distracted the 81-year-old owner and only after they left he noticed the two greyhounds were missing.

One of the greyhounds, a nine-year old-female called Twink, is black with a white chest. The other dog is a four-year-old tan coloured male called Jim.

The owner described one of the men as white and in his early 20s. The other was said to be in his teens and wearing all black. Both are thought to have had Irish accents.

PC Sonja Townsend, from Hertfordshire police is investigating the theft. She said: “I am appealing to members of the public to come forward if they recognise the dogs described or if they have been offered them for sale.”
