TORY chiefs in Barnet today gave their verdict on David Cameron's party conference speech in Manchester.

The speech covered the key areas of policy that a Conservative Government would address and outlined why Mr Cameron would be the best leader for the nation.

Theresa Villiers, MP for Chipping Barnet, said: “David’s speech clearly set out what Britain would be like if he was to become Prime Minister and the change he would bring to our country.”

As shadow secretary of state for transport, Ms Villiers sat with other members of the shadow cabinet behind Mr Cameron on the conference stage during the speech.

Council leader Mike Freer said: “The speech showed how the Conservatives plan to lift our country out of the enormous debt Labour has left us - something Gordon Brown failed to even mention is his conference speech.”

The speech, which kicked off at 2pm last Thursday, was introduced by Bono, who applauded the commitment to protect international development spending from future cuts.

Key elements of the speech included an attack on big government, a commitment to tackling poverty and a pledge to overhaul education.
