THE work of a print artist from Friern Barnet has been selected for a prestigious nationwide exhibition.
A black and white print by Colin Gillespie, 71, will hang alongside around 250 small works by other top British artists at the ING Discerning Eye Exhibition in south London.
The six judges, which included art collector Lawrence Llewellyn Bowen and Financial Times art critic Jackie Wullschlager, selected Mr Gillespie's "Rain Men" from more than 2,000 submitted by artists across the country.
Describing his art, Mr Gillespie said: "My work is concerned with the reality of living within an urban society.
"It seeks to describe the dreams, relationships and sometimes isolation that any individual may experience within such an environment."
Isable Cooper, spokeswoman for INH Discerning Eye, said: "The charm of this exhibition lies in the unpredictability and variety of the selectors' choice of works.
"It provides the opportunity for unknown and established artists working in different mediums and styles to show alongside each other."
The exhibition will be open to the public from November 12 to 19 at The Mall Galleries, in The Mall, central London.
Admission is free.
