STARRY eyed students were this morning celebrating a Finchley school's best ever exam results success.

The Compton School, in Summers Lane, was reporting record GCSE results this year, with 83 per cent of pupils picking up A* to C grades.

The figure was up two per cent on last year, with 60 per cent achieving A* to C grades including English and maths.

Scores of students began picking up their results from the fully comprehensive school at 11am, with a large majority clearly gleeful to have gained the grades needed to get into college.

Soroush Ahmadi, 16, collected a school record 11 A* and is going on to study three sciences and maths at Woodhouse College.

He said: “I feel quite good about it. But I feel I don't deserve the results because the GCSEs seem to have become a lot easier, but I am happy I got them.”

Wan-Ling Yi, who hopes to become a doctor, picked up ten A* and an A, to go alongside the A she achieved in Chinese at A-level last year.

The 16-year-old said: “I am really pleased the hard work paid off. I am motivated by a need to succeed.

“It was a really stressful time and I was unsure about how it went. I had a nightmare last night that Ds in everything.”

Tessa Fellows is going to Woodhouse College to study biology, literature, psychology and history, having achieved seven A*, two As and a B.

She said: “I feel really happy. Some of the exams were harder than others, but they weren't too bad.

“I'm not sure what I want to do yet, I'm still leaving my options open.”

Nirav Vyas, who eventually hopes to study medicine at University, achieved five A*s, four As and a B, meaning he can study biology, chemistry, maths and further maths at college.

He said: “I have been dreading it. But I am through the roof because it means I can go to my first choice sixth form.

“I am a bit scared because I won't know many people there, but sixth form life will be fun.”

Headteacher Teresa Tunnadine praised the efforts of the year group for bringing in the school's best ever results, and said: “I am delighted. It is a fabulous place for the students and they have worked very hard with skilled teachers to help them through.

“We are very pleased that after five years of being here we have been able to make a difference to their lives and give them the best opportunity to move on to A-levels and make the best of themselves.

“It shows that we are doing the right thing for the students, but that is not to say we can't get better.”
